Revision total hip replacement is when part or all of a previous total hip replacement needs to be re-done. Although relatively uncommon there are many reasons why a hip replacement may need to be revised.
Revision surgery may range from just changing one or two parts to major surgery including replacement of large parts of bone. It is usually technically more difficult than doing a hip replacement for the first time and recovery may take longer.
Dr MacKenzie specialises in difficult revision hip surgery having undertaken extra training in this area in Canada and England after qualifying as an orthopaedic surgeon in Australia.
